Crew Project, Final Thoughts.

Well, overall, it WAS quite a roller coaster ride. I know I could have done more, and gotten more out of it, but I felt very much that I was working alone on this other than occasional contact with people, and that made me sad... after all, it was a CREW project. Nonetheless it was a fascinating oppertunity and I hope to learn from it for when I might need to apply this knowledge to my own third year project.

I feel that I would like an explanation about the sudden dissappearence of Sean from the face of the earth, because I was enthusiastic about his project, and would have loved to see it through to the end.

The project could have gone better and it could have gone worse, next year I hope to get a more organised structure for whatever crew I work with, and make sure that it is followed, and that everyone is always aware of everything they are needed to do, and when they need to do it by. This when I get there will of course be difficult and not much fun, but I think it may well avoid a number of the problems that I personally faced over the course of this. But it was intended to be a learning experience was it not? And thus, I have learned from it ^_^ I feel that whilst there was room for improvement, it was not by any means a failure.

Crew Project, Post 10

Well, this week everything went a little mad... Fable overlooked to remind me of the date of the final sound mix, so I got a phone call one morning telling me to bring everything in in an hour.

... Okay, so overall that whole thing could have been better planned, but I understand things are getting busy for everyone now and nobody is to blame any more.

So I pulled together what I had and took it to them, because simply, when given an hour or two's notice, what else can really be done.

I realise I was missing some stuff from the sound list, and I take an slice of responsibility for that, but I was not solely to blame, Brian never did turn up, I did not get the sound list in time, and the third years did not remind me, nor anyone else I spoke to on the matter, of the deadline either. So with my dissertation proposal looming. I just had to prioritise.
Here's a track of a few of the other, more mundane sounds that I had at the end. [With a picture of a spider winning a fight with a shoe, taken by me, in Arizona... my sandal is still receiving counselling for the incident]

Crew Project, Post 9

Finally got the sound list for Fable, but I still haven't seen Brian... so I have just been told to start working through it an assume I have to do it all. It does seem a little late for this, but I will do everything I can beside my own work to get all the possible sound that I can for them. I do like the concept of this project and would very much love to see it finished, depiste the rather sour way that the director seems to look upon me since the whole firing thing. I don't blame him though, I would probably feel the same way.

Anyhow, here is some nice wind-whistling for you to listen to! Also for fable. And this week you get a stupid picture of Harvey the guinea pig... because why not?

Crew Project, Post 8

I'm still waiting on The full sound list from Fable... I can neither find nor contact Brian about it, and he apparently has it. I am feeling a little in the dark about the whole thing at this point in time, but there is still time in my eyes, depending of course on how big this list is. I never did get to do any colouring, but I guess they simply never got it organised enough :( It's a shame, because I was hoping to do it. Oh well, maybe another time.

Crew Project, Post 7

Okay, so I'm waiting on any contact from Fable about the colouring still, I'm a bit surprised that they haven't jumped at the chance because of the amount of work they still have to do, but I am quite content to work for the rest of the holiday if they want me to. In the meantime... here is a picture I drew because I was bored.

Crew Project, Post 6

Took a trip to my friends at the Tavistock Fencing Club to record a track of sword noise, it was outside, and is far from a perfect track, but I like the way it turned out, and I hope it comes out as somewhat useable.

Pretty much at the end of term now, if I get some colouring for Fable, I shall post about that over easter.

Here is the track, with a video of the guinea pig who was previously in a shoe, now flatter than before.

Crew Project, Post 5

More progress on the Fable sounds ^_^ At the bottom of the post.

No contact from Sean, he is not answering phone calls either... I am not sure what happenned there but I would love to know.

Apparently I was never actually put on the list to work on the stop-motion project, so my hopes there have been somewhat dashed. But there will be other chances... I'm sure I can find someone to build props for next year instead.

The term is getting near an end now, I'm not sure if this project goes into next term, but I want to colour some scenes for the Fable team over the holidays, I am staying just to work for the third years this holiday. I hope I can be some use to someone ^_^

Rain... to a picture of... a really reeeeaaaaaalllly eerie sunrise I caught a couple days ago.
Warning, this will be a long video XD

Crew Project, Post 4

Okay, so for a few weeks I might have been a bit more focused on my other class projects than the crew assignment, sometimes that is bound to happen as workloads go up and down. I did not expect what happenned as a result of it though, I was told that I was fired in front of the whole Fable group, then promptly un-fired to work with Brian instead of being fired. Despite the public humuliation part of this, I am not upset about it, and actually am rather looking forward to collaborating with someone on the sound. I will continue to work on the foley and he will handle the final sound mix, which is fine by me ^_^
Also I now have a more extended list of sounds to collect for the project.

Still no word from Sean about Jeffrey Chide, and he is not answering my emails, I shall try calling into the studio more to see if I can track him down in person.

Asked Andy about the lack of contact from the stop-motion project, and have been told to go and find Orla to ask about it, so I shall do that.

Crew Project, Post 3

I have gathered some more sounds for Fable, though I am hesitant about the Flintlock Rifle noise that Jake seems to prefer, he told me to record some from video games, but I am aware that might be considered theft, and I don't want to be part in that really. However, he is the boss, and I have done so, I took one of the sounds from a game, several others from my archives. It is of course his final decision, and I will admit the game sound IS the better one of the set, but we shall see how it goes. I am enjoying gathering these sounds, and can only hope that the group will think them suitable.

No email from Sean about Jeffrey Chide yet, he must be busy this week, I shall wait a while before I bother him about it, in the meantime I shall carry on collecting sounds for him.

No contact from the stop motion project still, I shall have to start contacting them if I hear nothing soon.

The Offending Flintlock Sounds in a single track: To a pointless doodle I did of a gun some time ago. I realise this is not the right sort of gun, but I had to put SOMETHING in the video.

Crew Project, Post 2

Well, my sound work on Fable continues to go well, I am slowly gathering some of the sounds they asked for... stabbing, squelching, sword noise... that variety of thing. I shall try uploading some of the sound files at the end of the post.

Jeffrey Chide also goes well, I recorded the scratch track narration of the animation this week, and I shall upload that also, if Blogger allows me to upload sound files. I will also put in some of the other sounds that I have been recording for the project. Sean has promised to email me soon with opinions and changes, and obviously about the sounds still required, of which there are plenty.

Okay, so it turns out that Blogger doesn't allow Audio files, I will work on a solution to this and fill them in as I find one.

EDIT:
Okay, I found a Solution, an annoying one, but a solution nonetheless.

So without Further fuss... here is the Scratch track narration of Jeffrey Chide, Narrated by Sean Rothwell, Recorded by me, with a pointless video image of a guinea pig to trick blogger into thinking this is a video :D

Some sounds I have so far done for J-Chide with a pointless picture of a rainbow.

Some sounds so far from Fable, with a pointless picture of a really pretty tree that I took a long time ago.

Crew Project, Post 1

Now I have properly met and spoken with both of the groups that I am doing sound for. They both have very interesting concepts, and at this time, seem to have enthusiastic, active, friendly groups. Inbetween: A fable has given me a few basic sounds that I am to start getting for them, which is certainly something good to get to as a starting point.

The Story of Jeffrey Chide seems to be a highly unusual, but amusing concept, which I am already interested in. I have been provided with a full, detailed sound list, sorted by scene, and I am delighted that it is all so well organised so early on! I hope to start recording sounds very soon! ^_^

Still no word from the stop-motion project, I assume they must still be in early planning and therefore not ready for the prop-building.

New Term, New Post.

Well, okay, so it's not a new term any more, we have been at it for several weeks now, but this is the first time I have had something tangible enough to post about. For this term, I shall be organising my posts as one per week per project, with the exception of this week, where there will just be this. So it should be, give or take, three posts a week. Hopefully this will work as a suitable format ^_^

Okay, so, this week we found out some more details of the projects that we are to expect this term, and all of them hold interest for me. The Crew assignment project offers a great chance to work with the third years on their final projects, and I have been put into three groups. Two for sound, which I already love to do, and one for prop building for a stop-motion animation project. All of these are interesting and offer some great chances to try my hand at things I already know, and things that are a bit newer to me, and not only that, but to do so in an active animating team. I have read up all I can about the projects that I am to be put on, and they all seem very interesting to me, and I look forward to getting started on them very much. I have spoken with two out of the three groups, and hope to hear from the third soon!

My mind is already made up on the Post/Pre production projects, and was right from the start, I want to do post production because I already love the software that it offers a chance to learn with. I already know a basic level of compositing, and have been an editor for a number of years, this allows me to combine the two and expand my knowledge a great deal!

As for Cinematography, that promises to be a new and interesting challenge as well, having already done Film at degree level for two years, I know how to use the equipment already and hope to expand my existing knowledge working on something that my group and I have been able to come up with for ourselves. The freedom to choose is always so welcome in these situations. But a two minutes silent film as it apparently is rumored to be certainly offers us the chance to do that.
